Let’s reimagine authenticity in campaigns.
Running a truly authentic campaign means embodying the concepts of your platform in every facet of your campaign. It means showing your community who you are, not creating a separate version of yourself. And it means collaborating with your community, not prophesizing to them.
understanding the barriers
In addressing the reality of the local political landscape, we need to address and understand the totality of the challenges progressive campaigns typically face.
ACCESS TO CAPITAL
Progressive candidates from impacted communities often struggle to compete financially with candidates who often have the ability to fund their own campaigns.
NAME RECOGNITION
Politics has been historically dominated by older, wealthier business leaders, political families, and military retirees who have high name recognition.
PARTY SUPPORT
Party support, or lack thereof, often directly impacts progressive candidates who don’t have well-established ties within the party’s hierarchal structures.
IDENTITY POLITICS
Political campaigns still navigate campaign strategies for candidates from impacted communities that center defending or otherwise “managing” their identities.
VIABILITY MODELING
The process skews almost entirely to the wealthy, well-known ,connected candidate in the race, who faces the least challenges of navigating “identity” politics.
STAFFING
We need to build a deeper bench of qualitied, skilled campaign staff to support progressive campaigns that are thoughtful, efficient, effective and authentic.
